Voyages of Discovery has expanded its coverage of the world over the last 30 years to establish itself as a true destination-led cruising specialist.

The single-ship line offers ocean voyages that are rarely found in other cruise programmes.

From traditional roots in the Eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea, its year-round programme now features a wider selection of cruises than ever before, with out of the ordinary destinations that include Antarctica, the Galapagos, South America, South Africa and the South Pacific.

Itineraries from the UK depart from Harwich to Scandinavia, Iceland and Greenland, plus unusual destinations in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.

Voyages of Discovery currently operates the spacious MV Discovery. It is small enough to reach out-of-the-way ports but large enough to make light work of crossing the great oceans, while offering all of today's modern, expected comforts within a sleek exterior.

With eight passenger decks, the 710-passenger ship features two restaurants, four lounges, six bars, two pools, a gym and health centre, theatre, shops, internet centre, library, beauty salon and card room. Wi-Fi connections are available at two locations on board and the line also features a number of guest lecturers

UK departures include free car parking at Harwich and complimentary coach transfers from central London plus Luton and Stansted airports to join the ship. Fly-cruises operate with flights from Gatwick and Manchester.

Summer 2008 itineraries include new Mediterranean destinations such as Turkey’s Turquoise coast, Rhodes and Heraklion. Lerwick, Invergordon and Leith are introduced as part of a 10-night Norwegian Fjords and Scottish Islands cruise from Harwich.

The niche cruise operator’s 2008-09 World of Discovery series of cruises includes South Africa and the Indian Ocean for the first time.

MV Discovery will visit five ports from Cape Town as well as colonial outposts in Madagascar, dense forests in Mozambique, Mumbai and Goa.

A 23-day Cape to Cape itinerary – which includes a rare stop at Tristan da Cunha, known as the world’s remotest island – departs on February 7, 2009.

A new selection of magnificent Grand Voyages – combinations of individual cruises that offer excellent value for money – are also a key feature.

Favourites, such as Antarctica, South America and the Red Sea, feature and there is an epic 107-day Grand Voyage of Discovery, from Ushuaia on the southern tip or Argentina to Harwich via Antarctica, the Falklands, South Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Red and Black Seas and the Mediterranean.

A limited number of cabins on all winter voyages have no single occupancy supplement.
