Star Cruises
Independent Expert Reviews by Professional Travel Journalists
Asia-based Star Cruises is the only cruise line to sail year round in the Far East.
Itineraries feature ports of call in Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.
Most popular with British cruisers is the intimate, 800-passenger SuperStar Gemini and the 2,000-passenger SuperStar Virgo.
SuperStar Virgo was designed especially for the relaxed and informal ‘freestyle cruising’ which Star Cruises pioneered and is now also a feature of Star Cruises’ Group brand Norwegian Cruise Line.
Singapore-based itineraries vary between summer and winter and durations range from two nights (popular as a stopover option for travellers heading to Australasia) to 21 nights to Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Hong Kong.
A sample fly-cruise itinerary includes five nights on SuperStar Virgo and three nights in Singapore.
SuperStar Libra sails in India in the winter with cruises to Goa and the Kadmat Islands, and in the summer from Keeling, Taiwan with short cruises to Yonaguni, Taiwan.
SuperStar Aquarius offers short cruise-excursions from Hong Kong.
All ships have a no-tipping policy and the average passenger-to-staff ratio is 2:1.
With high service standards, Star Cruises features Asian influences in the ship decor, spa treatments, entertainment and hospitality.
As well as international dining options, Asian specialities such as Chinese, Indian and Japanese cuisine is also available on board.
