Classic International Cruises
Independent Expert Reviews by Professional Travel Journalists
As the name suggests, Classic International Cruises runs a series of traditional cruise ships.
The company acts as agents for ship owners and deploys a range of ships around the world.
Offering a relaxing, friendly and informal style of cruising, the ships’ officers and crew are mainly Portuguese.
Cruises from the UK in summer 2008 will operate from Leith in Scotland with a series of good value sailings to the Norwegian fjords, North Cape and Iceland and the Northern Isles. A Baltic Cities and St Petersburg itinerary is also scheduled.
The voyages are in seven, 10 and 12-night durations on the former transatlantic liner Athena carrying 550 passengers.
The majority of the 276 cabins across 12 grades have a sea view and all have a bath and shower, satellite TV, hairdryer and personal safe.
There are more luxurious mini suites and specious balcony suites featuring whirlpool baths and mini bars.
The ship, which was last refurbished in 2004, has a restaurant and buffet, five lounges and bars, a nightclub, auditorium and cinema, casino, shops, library, card room, fitness and health centre with sauna and massage plus a swimming pool.
Cruises are also offered on the 571-passenger Funchal, a former Portuguese presidential yacht, which was last refurbished in 2003.
Offering a personalised style of cruising, the vessel has two restaurants, two lounges, a bar, disco, library, club room and card room. There is an outdoor bar, swimming pool, beauty salon, boutique, casino and photo shop.
Cabins are across ten grades, with the majority having ocean views.
Funchal sails the Artic Circle, Norwegian Fjords, Atlantic islands, Mediterranean, South America and Australia.
